On a recent trip to Mexico City I was fortunate to dine at YUBAN which has an innovative and modern take on Mexican food. Mexico City in my opinion has truly become a dining mecca with young chefs opening interesting small restaurants in local neighborhoods.

YUBAN is in the Roma area on a tree lined street with a very quaint ambience and décor. Executive Chef Fernando Martinez who has won Mexico’s top chef prepares beautifully presented and prepared dishes. Each dish that we tried was delicious and a great interpretation of his stake on Mexican cuisine.

The crab appetizer is light and flavorful. The fish entrees are flown in daily and delicate. The desserts are sinful but not overwhelming. There is an assortment of wonderfully prepared dishes that one can sample. The portions are not large so one can feel comfortable sampling a few.

The décor is rustic chic and the service attentive and real. There is a delightful selection of libations made from scratch with fresh juices, essences and flavors.

Chef Martinez has made YUBAN into a great stop on a culinary tour of Mexico City.
