Little Island located at pier fifty-five on the Hudson River Park in New York is an urban oasis. This island is a feast for the eyes and senses with an urban landscape that includes rolling hills, meandering paths and a dazzling view of the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline.

After years of planning little island opened on May 21, 2021, during the pandemic to offer New Yorkers and visitors a refuge on the water with lush foliage, educational programs, music, and theater. The open amphitheater overlooks the water and events even free ones require a ticket. We visited in July 2022 and we were able to listen to a fantastic gospel concert just walking and discovering the park. The sound of the music coupled with the view and lit foliage reflecting on the water was riveting.

The foliage changes with the season and at night when there are lights throughout it is magical. In season when the weather permits there is seating and food concessions that sell light fare. Little Island opened with the generous donation of the Diller-Von Furstenberg foundation. Their mission to provide a place to rest, reflect and enjoy in the heart of the city on the Hudson River Park! I have found that nature is so healing especially during difficult life moments.
