I love to travel to Italy in the off-season—fewer crowds, easier access to museums, and reservations at incredible restaurants secured without weeks of planning. January, just after the holidays, is one of my favorite times to go. I adore slipping into a comfortable coat and boots and setting off to wander and explore whichever city I’ve chosen.
This trip took me to Florence, a city that feels magical in every season. In winter, though, with bright sunshine warming my shoulders and crisp air energizing each step, it was pure bliss.
One afternoon, while walking along the Arno River on my way back to the hotel, I passed a magnificent palazzo. Peering through the windows, I noticed beautifully displayed shoes inside. At first glance, I assumed it was a museum or gallery.
The next day, with more time to spare, I returned and discovered it was the flagship boutique of Aquazzura, housed within the stunning Palazzo Corsini. The moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the architecture and interiors.
The space is a perfect marriage of handcrafted footwear and historic grandeur, thoughtfully adapted into a refined shoe emporium. Rich textures, layered colors, and soaring vaulted ceilings adorned with intricate frescoss quite literally took my breath away.
The boutique unfolds across three rooms: the first showcases the current collection alongside winter sale pieces; the second is dedicated to bridal; and the third presents the brand’s homeware offerings. Each display feels more like a curated gallery installation than a traditional retail space. The presentation of the shoes pays homage to the architectural integrity of the palazzo, allowing history and design to exist in elegant harmony.
Shopping at the Aquazzura flagship in Florence was a true pleasure—not simply for the beautiful shoes, but for the rare experience of browsing within a historic structure overlooking the majestic Arno River.
