The Middleburg and Upperville areas in Virginia are just an hour’s drive from Washington DC but a world’s away when it comes to peace, tranquility and nature.

I try to visit this area whenever I feel the need to get away from the confines of the city and be immersed in nature. During a recent holiday stay I came across the Hunter’s Head Tavern in Upperville VA, an authentic English pub with a twist! The property dates back to 1750 when Steven McPherson purchased the original log cabin the property sits on. Through the years revisions and expansions have been made to the main structure.

The Hunter’s Head Tavern works with Ayrshire Farm to provide natural farm to table meats, produce and vegetables. There is the standard pub fare like fish & chips & Shepard’s pie plus the vegetarian dishes and an array of salads & sides.

What I really like about the Hunters’ Head Tavern is that by offering sustainable food they are cultivating the business of local farmers, preserving open spaces, and providing the highest quality food directly to their guests.
