There are places that impress you, and then there are places that make you exhale. Finca Cortesin was the latter for me.
Having dinner on the terrace was a true Zen experience—an unexpected moment of serenity after months of demanding business responsibilities. The moment I entered through the gates and drove beneath the canopy of Finca trees, I felt an immediate sense of calm. Something shifted.
Set in the hills above the Mediterranean on the Costa del Sol, Finca Cortesin feels wonderfully removed from the world. The air was fresh, the surroundings serene, and we were welcomed with the effortless kindness and grace that make a place feel special.
We wandered through the property, passing the beautiful outdoor pools, elegant courtyards, and breathtaking indoor spa. Every detail seemed thoughtfully considered. Yet nothing felt excessive. The beauty was understated, refined, and completely at ease.
That is what I find so compelling about true luxury. It doesn’t need to announce itself.
After our tour, we settled onto the terrace overlooking the grounds, surrounded by magnificent olive trees. As we sat beneath the evening sky, I could actually feel my body beginning to relax. After months of intense work and responsibility, it was exactly the pause I needed.
We decided to dine outside and began with a little libación—a Spritz for me and a beautiful Spanish wine for my friend. Fresh olives, roasted almonds, and lightly fried plantains arrived alongside our drinks.
The attention to detail was flawless. The service was impeccable—warm, attentive, and discreet. We were never rushed or made to feel that we needed to move along. Instead, we were given something that has become increasingly precious in our busy lives: time.
We lingered as the sun slowly disappeared beyond the hills. When we were ready, we ordered dinner. I chose the Caesar salad with chicken, while my friend had a classic chicken club sandwich with delicious French fries.
We took our time. We talked, laughed, watched the evening unfold, and simply enjoyed being there. The food was lovely, but it was the setting and the feeling of the evening that stayed with me.
After dinner, chocolates arrived with our cortados. It was such a small gesture, yet somehow it completed the evening perfectly.
Sitting beneath the evening sky, surrounded by olive trees and the quiet beauty of Finca Cortesin, I realized how much I had needed that moment. Not another meeting. Not another decision. Not another problem to solve.
Just beauty. Good company. A beautiful setting. And the freedom to simply be.
For me, that is luxury. Luxury isn’t always about extravagance or excess. Sometimes, it is the ability to slow down long enough to appreciate where you are. It is thoughtful service, beautiful surroundings, genuine hospitality—and the feeling that, for a few hours, the rest of the world can wait.
My evening at Finca Cortesin was more than dinner. It was a moment of stillness, beauty, and grace. And one I truly relished.
