When the new artistic director at DIOR Maria Grazia Chiuri presented her first runway show for spring 2017 the message was celebrating woman globally! The first female to be appointed the artistic director at the House of DIOR made a statement.

The T-shirt she sent down the runway inspired by the works of Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie read “we should all be feminists”.

The mixture of fashion and politics is not new but for the first female artistic director of a power fashion house like DIOR to take such a stance was brave and bold. Kudos to Maria Grazia Chiuri for taking action and paying homage to the woman across the globe that might not be able to get their voices heard due to their socio-economic standing. Woman in a position of power should support those that do not have such a standing and empower them.

Proceeds of the t-shirt go to Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation. I personally adore the use of fashion to raise awareness for woman’s causes and DIOR with its powerful voice can enact change or at least inspire dialogue through the channels they have in the global fashion indusry.
